One of the Council’s objectives is the protection of the environment. New vehicles that haven't been licensed as a hackney carriage before must meet the following minimum emissions standards - Euro 6 for Diesel fuelled vehicles and Euro 4 for petrol fuelled vehicles.

Licensing Officers are available to speak to without an appointment Monday to Friday, between 9am and 1pm. If you have an urgent enquiry outside these times please email licensing@wyre.gov.uk.

All vehicle licences are issued for 12 months.

The Council does not send reminders to vehicle proprietors whose licence is due to expire. The licence holder is responsible for ensuring that there is a valid licence and appropriate insurance policy in force at all times that the vehicle is used to transport members of the public.

Wyre has imposed a limit of 160 Hackney Carriage licences it will issue and undertakes an unmet demand survey periodically to ensure that this limit is still appropriate.

There is no limit on the number of Private Hire Vehicle Licences it will issue.
