Our budget
Wyre Council only receive around 10% of your Council Tax: the rest of the money collected (in unparished areas) is split among Lancashire Country Council, the Police and the Fire authorities. We only have the power to set this small part of your bill.
Council Tax accounted for 54% of Wyre Council’s funding in 2024/25 and is a significant factor in ensuring the continued delivery of our services. The remaining 46% is provided by Central Government.
Our Government funding has been cut year on year. Over the fifteen years up to and including 2025/26 we have lost £6.7m in funding which is the equivalent of nearly 76% of our grant funding back in 2010/11 (£8.9m).
We take pride in delivering high-quality statutory services while maintaining strong financial management. Unlike many councils across the UK that have fallen into debt, we have consistently safeguarded Wyre’s finances to ensure sustainable service delivery without compromising our fiscal stability and we remain a debt free council.
