Wyre Council’s 2026/27 budget consultation

We are looking to finalise our plans for the 2026/27 budget, and we’d like to hear what you think of the proposals.

Our vision

Wyre is a place where everyone can prosper. We want everyone in Wyre to have access to jobs and share the benefits of economic growth; live in thriving, safe, more environmentally sustainable and welcoming communities; and be healthier and independent for longer.

Our commitments in four key areas support our vision.

We’ve supported people and communities by:

  • Awarding over £1m in Household Support Funds to our most vulnerable residents since April 2024
  • Pledging £1.4m of developer contributions from housing sites across Wyre to deliver affordable housing in the borough
  • Launching Wyre Moving More, a five-year strategy bringing together community groups and sport and activity leaders across Wyre to tackle physical inactivity in the borough
  • Working with our partners, including the Police, to upgrade our CCTV control room to significantly increase the monitoring capacity of the unit, helping to keep our communities safe

We’ve created opportunities for growth and prosperity by:

  • Developing our Economic Development and Tourism Strategy, a framework to help us achieve our vision for the future of Wyre
  • Exploring the regeneration of Fleetwood Waterfront with our ambitious Waterfront Masterplan
  • Delivering £4.3m total of UKSPF and REPF funding between 2022/23 and 2024/25, which has funded projects all over Wyre, from business support, capital investment and local events and activities to public art projects and support for people seeking work, with another £1.4m of projects being undertaken this year.

We’ve protected Wyre’s place and climate by:

  • Planting over 25,000 trees by the end of 2025 in locations across the borough
  • Completing the refurbishment of Cottam Hall Pavilion, and progressing the Cottam Hall masterplan to the next phase
  • Nearing completion of Phase 1 of our Beach management scheme, to reduce the risk of coastal erosion and tidal flooding to over 11,000 properties and infrastructure within Wyre
  • Approving our Climate change strategy, outlining how we plan to tackle climate change by reducing our emissions
  • Ensuring our readiness for new food waste collections, ensuring our ability to meet the Government’s deadline of April 2026

We’ve delivered innovative and customer focused interventions to improve how we work and the services we provide, including:

  • Undertaking a Local Government Association (LGA) Corporate Peer Challenge in 2024 and taking actions for improvement based on the panel’s recommendations
  • Delivering our Transformation Strategy, which through numerous actions has transformed our workflow and improved efficiency across the organisation
  • Introducing a new SMS service to communicate with residents in a more efficient and cost-effective way
