What can I put in my bags or bins?

Please find below information on which bins to use for the disposal of waste.

Blue bags/blue bins/blue lidded bins

Green box (red bin from 6 April)

  • Mixed clean glass bottles and jars including lids 
  • Clean food and drink cans (including pet food and biscuit tins) 
  • Aerosols (including deodorants and hair spray) Please ensure that aerosols are empty and are not pierced. This is especially important for aerosols that contain lighter fluid, which can explode when they are crushed
  • Aluminium foil and foil trays (clean) 
  • Plastic bottles
  • Pots (e.g. yogurt, soup, etc.)
  • Tubs (e.g. margarine, ice cream, etc.)
  • Trays / punnets (e.g. raw meat or ham trays; take-away trays; fruit /veg trays)
  • Chocolate and biscuit tubs and trays
  • Other clear plastic packaging
  • Plant pots

Place the above items loose in the box, not in carrier bags. We cannot recycle the bags and it affects the sorting process at the recycling plant.

Please place clothes and shoes in carrier bags at the side of your box to ensure that the clothing is dry. Please note we are only able to collect clothes and shoes which are in good condition.

You can also recycle household batteries and small electricals in the same way.  Simply place your batteries in a clear sealed bag, your small electricals in an untied carrier bag and leave them for collection next to your green box.
