Following the recent fire at the former ex-catalogue shop building on Lord Street in Fleetwood, Wyre Council’s priority has been to ensure public safety whilst minimising disruption to residents, visitors, and local businesses.
Following a recent change of ownership of the building, the Council has today sent a letter to the new owners giving them 14 days’ notice to take the necessary action to remove the danger which will include the erection of structural scaffolding to provide restraint and facilitate safe repair works. Completion of the works should enable the road to reopen fully and restore normal access to neighbouring businesses.
Should the owners fail to complete the necessary works within 14 days, Wyre Council will make an application to the Magistrates Court for an Order under S77 Buildings Act 1984 . If the Court grants the order, the building owners will be given a specified period in which to remove the danger posed by the building. Should they fail to do so, the Council will be able to undertake the required works itself and recover the reasonable costs incurred.
