Free Family Fun Planned for Jean Stansfield Park’s 100th Anniversary Celebration

Advert to promote to event to celebrate Jean Stansfield Park centenary

Wyre Council, in partnership with Poulton Partnership, is inviting residents and visitors to join a special celebration marking 100 years of Jean Stansfield Memorial Park.

Taking place on Saturday 20 June from 10.30am to 4pm, the family-friendly event will feature the unveiling of a commemorative stone by the Mayor of Wyre, alongside a full programme of free activities throughout the day. Visitors can enjoy live music, games, community stalls, walkabout entertainment and much more as the community comes together to celebrate the park’s history and lasting legacy.

The park was named in memory of Jean Stansfield, a little girl from Poulton who sadly passed away in 1923 at just nine years old. Following her death, the Stansfield family purchased a parcel of land from the church and generously gifted it to the people of Poulton in 1926 to create a recreational space for local children to enjoy. Today, Jean Stansfield Park stands alongside Vicarage Park as one of Wyre’s most beautiful green spaces, proudly continuing Jean’s legacy more than a century later.

During the event, visitors will be able to enjoy a variety of free theatre performances throughout the day, including The Maniax, a fast-paced comedy stunt show featuring daring tricks, audience participation and laugh-out-loud entertainment, with performances at 11am and 1.50pm. The Van Dunk Brothers will bring their award-winning dry-land synchronised swimming act to the park at 12.30pm and 2.40pm, combining physical comedy and hilarious routines for all ages. Audiences can also enjoy The Giant Balloon Show, a lively street performance packed with comedy, giant balloon sculptures and an unforgettable finale set to an upbeat 80s soundtrack, with performances at 11.55am, 1.15pm and 3.20pm.

Alongside the entertainment, attendees can enjoy activities including a bubble maker, buzz wire game, bowling tuition and family games. Food and refreshments will also be available to purchase from Café Bloom in the Community Hall. Funds raised during the event will support Poulton in Bloom and Poulton Remembrance.

Councillor Simon Bridge, Portfolio Holder for Street Scene, Parks and Open Spaces at Wyre Council, comments:

“We are proud to celebrate 100 years of Jean Stansfield Park, a cherished green space that continues to embody both sustainability and beauty. Our thanks go to the dedicated grounds staff, community groups and volunteers whose care and commitment have shaped and maintained the park throughout its centenary.”

Wyre Council and Poulton Partnership are encouraging residents to come along and be part of this special milestone celebration, remembering the history of Jean Stansfield Memorial Park while enjoying a fun-filled day for the whole family. With free entertainment and plenty to see and do, the event promises to be a fitting tribute to one of Poulton’s most cherished green spaces.
