Newly Upgraded Gym Opens at Poulton Health and Fitness Centre

Following the completion of major improvement works at Poulton Health and Fitness Centre, the upgraded gym was officially opened by Wyre’s Mayor, Councillor Steve Nicholls and Deputy Mayor, Councillor Steve Livesey.

The occasion was marked with a ribbon cutting ceremony and tried out some of the new state-of-the-art equipment.

Over £100,000 has been invested into the facility, delivering a significantly enhanced workout environment designed to support people of all fitness levels as part of the Council’s Wyre Moving More commitment to help residents lead healthier, more active lives.

The refurbishment includes a complete refresh of the gym equipment and layout, with new equipment installations from Life Fitness. The improvements have created a larger, more versatile space for both cardio and strength training, alongside a dedicated fitness and stretch area.

Key features of the upgraded gym include:

  • New Life Fitness cardio equipment such as treadmills, cross-trainers, bikes and stairmills, with integrated 16-inch SE4 touchscreen consoles with internet connectivity and on-demand workouts
  • Expanded strength training area, including a cable multi-jungle, Smith machine, Olympic bench press, dumbbells and adjustable benches
  • Hammer Strength half rack and Olympic lifting platform
  • HIIT equipment such as a Concept2 SkiErg, Watt Bike and Assault Bike
  • Refurbished, fully reupholstered and serviced Life Fitness resistance machines
  • New flooring throughout, including durable rubber tiles in the free weights area

Councillor Lynne Bowen, Leisure, Health & Community Engagement Portfolio Holder at Wyre Council, said:

“The upgraded facilities are designed to cater to everyone, from those starting their fitness journey to experienced gym users.

This major upgrade, conducted by our new partners Parkwood Leisure and Creating Active Futures, gives residents a fantastic space to get active and supports our ambition to make Wyre a healthier, more active borough.”

The project reflects Wyre Council’s continued commitment to investing in high-quality leisure facilities for its communities, supporting physical wellbeing and encouraging more people to get active.

The refurbished gym at Poulton is supported by a newly appointed gym team, who can help people to take up a more active lifestyle in a high quality, supported environment. All members can book a gym induction session with the trained gym staff to ensure they feel confident using the new equipment and get the most out of their workouts.

Francois Smit, Regional Director at Parkwood Leisure comments,

“This project was about more than just new equipment; it was about investing in our members’ overall experience. We wanted to create a space that is not only functional, but also motivating and inspiring.

We are incredibly proud of the result and are excited to see our members back on the floor using these world-class facilities.”
