A striking new mural celebrating Fleetwood’s rich heritage has been completed at Fleetwood Market. Created by local artist Jeremy Alexander Gordon, the artwork has been developed in close collaboration with the Market Management team and traders and it’s already capturing the attention of visitors.
The idea began in summer 2025, following conversations between Jeremy and the Fleetwood Market team. Jeremy joined the Market House Studios in 2024, an initiative by Wyre Council that provides space for creative practitioner, and his first studio piece, A Homage to Fleetwood, quickly became a favourite among visitors. Its popularity inspired discussions about how public art could further showcase the town’s identity within Fleetwood Market.
The Traders Forum selected a night-time theme as the basis for the artwork. Jeremy’s proposed design received unanimous support, with work starting in late autumn, pausing over winter, and restarting in March.
The mural was officially unveiled on Tuesday 31 March, with MP Lorraine Beavers cutting the ribbon alongside visitors and traders.
Jeremy said:
“This mural is a labour of love for my hometown. Every brushstroke carries my affection for Fleetwood and my gratitude for being able to create art where my journey began.”
Market Manager Julian Brent added:
“Jeremy’s connection to Fleetwood is woven into this mural. From the moment we saw his original ‘Homage’ painting, we knew his style captured the spirit of the town. Watching the mural come to life has inspired our team, traders, and visitors who have followed its progress.”
Funding for the mural was provided by Fleetwood Market, supporting creative projects that celebrate the market’s heritage and community spirit.
Councillor Peter Le Marinel, Portfolio Holder for Planning Policy and Economic Development, said:
“Fleetwood Market continues to be a source of pride and inspiration for local people. Jeremy’s artwork captures the essence of Fleetwood’s community beautifully. It’s a wonderful addition to the market and a celebration of everything that makes Fleetwood special.”
The new mural stands as a tribute not only to Fleetwood’s past and present, but to the spirit of teamwork and shared pride within the Market community.
