The search is on for Wyre’s young stars

Nominations are now being sought for Wyre’s most inspirational young people.

If you know a young person who consistently goes above and beyond, now is your chance to nominate them for the prestigious Sheraton Trophy and help shine a spotlight on their success.

Every year the Mayor of Wyre presents the prestigious Sheraton Trophy to a rising star who has brought pride to the borough as a result of their achievements. This award not only recognises individual success but also reflects the strong sense of community pride that runs throughout Wyre, celebrating young people who help make our borough a place we can all be proud of.

Wyre Council wants to hear about young people who have excelled in any walk of life, be it sport, the arts, community work, volunteering or achievement against the odds.

Councillor Andrea Kay, Lead Member for Children and Young People at Wyre Council, said:

“Across Wyre, we see young people achieving incredible things and the Sheraton Trophy is a wonderful opportunity to recognise those exceptional young individuals who bring pride to our borough. I encourage everyone to consider putting forward a young person who deserves to be celebrated.”

One deserving winner, chosen by the Mayor Councillor Steve Nicholls, will be presented with the trophy at the Council’s Annual Meeting on Thursday 14 May.

What is the Sheraton Trophy?

The Sheraton Trophy takes its name from HMS Sheraton which was awarded the Freedom of the Borough in recognition of support given to Fleetwood by the crew during the 1977 flood emergency when the ship was visiting the port.

In 2025 the trophy was awarded to Amelia Cowburn for achievements in competitive swimming, determination to excel at school in the face of great hurdles, and care for their community as part of the Christmas Close charity fundraising effort.
