Wyre’s Holiday Activities and Food Programme celebrates its most successful year yet

In 2025 Wyre Council saw a record‑breaking year for its Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) Programme.

The programme provides vital support to children and young people across the borough during school holidays by offering free holiday club places for children and young people who receive benefits‑related free school meals, with additional paid places available for families who are not eligible for free provision. Sessions run during the Easter, summer and Christmas school breaks.

In 2025, the HAF programme delivered an impressive 69 different activities, ensuring there was something for every child to enjoy. Activities included Multi‑skills, Football, Dance, Rugby, Pantomime, Coding, Swimming, Bowling, Fitness, Golf, Boxing and many more.

Provision was delivered right across the borough, supporting children and young people in Fleetwood, Thornton, Poulton, Carleton, Garstang, Over Wyre, Scorton, Great Eccleston, Hambleton and Cleveleys.

There was strong attendance across all age groups, with a total of 2,153 children taking part in HAF sessions throughout 2025. This included 1,462 primary school children and 691 secondary school children, demonstrating the wide reach and appeal of the programme.

These figures reflect the continued demand for high‑quality, accessible holiday provision and the commitment of local providers who help deliver the programme.

Wyre Council is inviting families and providers to share their experiences of the 2025 HAF programme to help shape future delivery. Feedback can be sent to community@wyre.gov.uk

Councillor Lynne Bowen, Portfolio Holder for Leisure, Health and Community Engagement at Wyre Council comments,

“We are incredibly proud of the impact the HAF programme continues to have for families across Wyre. Attendance shows just how valued these sessions are, and we want to thank every child, parent and provider who helped make 2025 such a success.”

Our Spring HAF (Holiday Activities and Food) offer is coming soon.
