Wyre Council teams are working hard behind the scenes to ensure commemorative sites across the borough are presented with care and respect ahead of this year’s Remembrance services. In the lead-up to the events, teams will carry out seasonal planting of summer and winter bedding, as well as general tidying and maintenance of key areas to ensure they are looking their best. In addition, Council Officers, volunteers, as well as representatives from the Royal British Legion, have recently placed wooden crosses on the war graves at Fleetwood cemetery in a quiet act of remembrance.
On the morning of the services, chrysanthemums will be planted to enhance the floral displays, with staff on site early to complete final preparations and ensure everything is in place. Three dedicated teams, covering Fleetwood, Poulton, Thornton, and Over Wyre, will begin work from 4:30am on Remembrance Sunday to carry out all necessary tasks in a timely and respectful manner. Their efforts will help create a fitting environment for the community to come together in remembrance.
The Leader of Wyre Council Councillor Michael Vincent commenting on the planned Remembrance services said, “It is an honour to gather together on Remembrance Sunday and have the opportunity to offer our deepest respect and express our eternal gratitude to our veterans past and present. Please join us at one of the services.”
Please note, there will be road closures in Barton, Garstang, Thornton and Fleetwood to enable these services to take place safely.
