Wyre Council is extending the deadline for nominations for the 2025 Wyre Community Awards.
The extension gives residents more time to celebrate the incredible work of voluntary, charitable, faith and social enterprise organisations across the borough.
Following the success of last year’s event, the awards return to honour those making a real difference in our communities. Whether it’s supporting children, empowering adults, or strengthening local neighbourhoods, these awards shine a spotlight on the unsung heroes who dedicate their time and energy to helping others.
The awards ceremony will take place on Thursday 4 December, and nominations will now close on Friday 17 October 2025.
There are three categories to nominate for:
- Making a Difference to Children
- Making a Difference to Adults
- Making a Difference in the Local Community
To nominate an organisation, complete the online form at www.wyre.gov.uk/awards
The 2024 Wyre Community Awards celebrated a range of inspiring local organisations and individuals. Behind Closed Doors won the Making a Difference to Adults award for its vital support to women affected by domestic abuse. The Making a Difference to Young People award went to The Matthew Hesmondhalgh Memorial Fund, which raises awareness of Sudden Arrhythmic Death Syndrome and funds cardiac screenings for young people. The Chaddeans, a long-standing music and drama group, received the Making a Difference to Communities award for their charitable work and efforts to save Poulton Community Village Hall. A special recognition award was also presented to Robert Danson for over four decades of conservation work, including building bird boxes and monitoring local bird populations.
Councillor Lynne Bowen, Portfolio Holder for Leisure, Health and Community Engagement, said:
“The Wyre Community Awards are a wonderful opportunity to recognise the organisations that work tirelessly to support our residents. These groups are the heartbeat of our communities, and their efforts often go unseen. By nominating them, we can give them the recognition they truly deserve and celebrate the positive impact they make every day.”
Let’s celebrate the organisations that make Wyre a better place to live. If you know a group that deserves recognition, nominate them before the extended deadline!
