Youth Mayor

The Youth Mayor for 2026-27 was appointed at the Annual Council held on 14 May 2026

Created jointly by Wyre Council and Lancashire County Council, the Youth Mayor role gives young people a platform to share their views, highlight the issues that matter to them, and influence local decision‑making. The position is open to anyone aged 13 to 17 who lives in Wyre or attends a school or college within the borough.

The Youth Mayor plays a key role in representing young people and contributing to civic life. They are accountable to young people in Wyre, Wyre District Youth Council, and Wyre Borough Council.

Among their duties, the Youth Mayor will:

  • Represent and advocate for the interests of young people in Wyre
  • Act as a communication link between young people and the council
  • Work with the Wyre Borough Lead Member for Children and Young People and council officers to ensure young people’s needs are identified and supported
  • Promote tolerance, inclusion and community cohesion
  • Serve as a civic and ceremonial figurehead for young people at appropriate events
  • Attend regular meetings of the Wyre Youth Council

Furthermore, during their year in office, the Youth Mayor is invited to attend a number of occasions alongside the Mayor for Wyre, providing valuable opportunities to contribute a youth perspective to relevant projects and initiatives.
