Temporary pavement licences

Temporary pavement licence

The Business and Planning Act 2020 allows for businesses to place furniture. such as tables and chairs, on a public highway under a temporary pavement licence.

Please read Wyre Council's policy on pavement licences which includes the standard conditions that will be applied to pavement licences, and a template for the site notice.

The fee for a new Wyre pavement licence is £100, and licences will be issued for four months. The fee is £80 to renew an existing licence. Licences will be issued for a maximum of six months.

Applications must be submitted using the online form and advertised by displaying a site notice at the premises for seven days.

We would remind businesses that until a pavement licence has been granted, furniture such as tables and chairs should not be placed on the public highway, as the obstruction would be unlawful under the Highways Act 1980.
