Introduction to Riverflies

Riverside fly perched on a branch

Dive into the fascinating world beneath the surface! This free adult course offers a hands-on introduction to freshwater macroinvertebrates—tiny creatures that reveal the health of our rivers.

Join Wyre Rivers Trust experts on the banks of the River Calder at Catterall, where you’ll perform kick sampling and identify riverflies and other key species right in the field. Then, take your learning further with an exclusive visit to WRT’s laboratory at Myerscough College FFIT Centre. Here, you’ll get a rare opportunity to examine preserved specimens under microscopes and uncover the secrets of these vital indicators of water quality.
