Drivers

Renewal of badges

Wyre sends reminders to all licensed drivers two months before their badge is due to expire.

Drivers who allow their badge to lapse, without prior agreement, may be treated as a new driver on re-application and will have to re-sit the knowledge test.

Wyre Council will NOT PROCESS an application to renew your badge, until the Licensing Office receives a complete application and all required documents.

A complete application is:

  • Application Form (either paper or online)
  • Disclosure of Convictions Form
  • DBS Certificate - registered on the DBS update service
  • Safeguarding training certificate - see information below
  • Action Counters Terrorism (ACT) e-Learning certificate - see information below
  • Proof of Right to Work
  • Completed Group 2 Medical Form
  • Complete a DVLA Licence check via TaxiPlus - https://www.taxiplus.co.uk/councils/wyre-borough-council

All Wyre licensed drivers must subscribe to the DBS update service at all times and must retain your paper certificate as we can ask to see it at any time and at a minimum require sight of it at each renewal.

If you need to apply for a new DBS Certificate you can do this via TaxiPlus:https://www.taxiplus.co.uk/councils/wyre-borough-council

If I needed to apply for a new DBS what happens next?

When your application has been processed, the Disclosure and Baring Service will send the enhanced disclosure certificate directly to you.

As soon as you receive your certificate, you must register for the DBS update service. You only have 30 days from the date of your certificate to register and if you miss this deadline, you will have to apply for another certificate in order to be eligible for the update service.

If you fail to register for the DBS update service, or fail to renew your registration during the period that your licence is valid, your licence may be revoked.

If the disclosure is ‘not clear’?

If there are any convictions or notes on your DBS, a licensing officer will review the nature of the offences, in accordance with the Council’s Policy on Convictions and Other Relevant Matters.

We recommend submitting your application via our website as this is quickest, easiest way for you to submit and for us to check your application.

If you allow your existing licence to expire, you will not be able to drive a licensed vehicle until a new licence has been granted and issued.

Action Counters Terrorism (ACT) e-Learning

Action Counters Terrorism (ACT) e-Learning is a free, specialised online training program developed by the UK government and counter-terrorism police

The training helps taxi drivers recognise suspicious behaviour and know how to report potential threats safely

Taxi drivers travel across cities, transport diverse passengers, and frequent public hubs, transport nodes, and crowded areas. Police forces view drivers as a vital community network capable of noticing unusual or out-of-place activities that others might miss

The free online training course can be accessed here
