Barton Neighbourhood Plan adopted by council

The first neighbourhood plan for Wyre, The Barton Neighbourhood Plan 2019-30, has been adopted at last night’s full council meeting.

On 9 November a referendum was administered by Preston City Council at which a number of properties/electors registered within Myerscough and Bilsborrow Parish that are located within Barton were able to vote on whether to use a Neighbourhood Plan to help decide future planning applications in the area. 335 residents voted yes and 19 voted no. Therefore over 50% votes cast were in favour of Wyre Council using the Barton Neighbourhood Plan to make planning decisions in the Barton Neighbourhood Area resulting in a recommendation to council that the neighbourhood plan should be adopted.

The plan has provided an opportunity for local people to have more say in developing a shared vision for their neighbourhood and where future development (such as new homes, offices, shops, and infrastructure and other development) should be built or provided and what it should look like and identifying and protecting important local green spaces. Thank you to Barton Parish Council and the Barton Neighbourhood Plan Steering Group for all the work they have put in on behalf of the community. You can view the full neighbourhood plan here.
