The search is on for Wyre's community sports stars.

Wyre Council is looking for the borough's most talented sports stars and those who work tirelessly behind the scenes to support individuals and clubs.

Wyre's Sports Awards celebrate excellence and dedication in local sport and recognise the coaches, volunteers and clubs who have made a real difference.

All the winners will go forward to represent Wyre at the Lancashire Sports Awards, the largest celebration of amateur sport in the county, at a ceremony taking place on 28 September at the Guild Hall, Preston.

Last year, two Wyre winners went on to win Lancashire Sports Awards; Sarah Oxley, head coach at Gym Mania Gymnastics in Fleetwood, was awarded Coach of the Year and the Outdoor Adventure Group, also in Fleetwood, claimed Community Club of the Year, beating rivals from local authorities across the county.

Nominations are invited in the following categories:
- Adult volunteer of the year (25+ years old)
- Coach of the year
- Community club of the year
- Lifetime achievement award
- Rising star 2012 (under 21 years)
- School of the year
- Young volunteer of the year (14-24 years)

For more information and to nominate visit www.wyre.gov.uk/sportsawards.

Alternatively, hard copies of the nomination forms are available from Ronan McMahon on 01253 887369 or via email at ronan.mcmahon@wyre.gov.uk.

Closing date for nominations is Friday 22 June.
