Council tax discount for a school leaver or someone whom child benefit is still payable for

A person is disregarded when counting the number of adults in a property for council tax purposes until they are aged 18 years.

A person can be disregarded for council tax purposes if:

  • they are aged 18 or over and someone receives child benefit for them or
  • they are under the age of 20 and they have (after 30th April and before 1st November in any year) ceased to undertake a full-time course of education or a qualifying course of education
