Rural businesses across Wyre are being encouraged to have their say as Wyre Council launches a new consultation aimed at understanding the challenges, opportunities and support needs of businesses operating in rural areas.
The consultation, which opens on Monday 27 July, forms part of the council's commitment to supporting economic growth and prosperity across the borough. Feedback gathered will help shape future business support, funding opportunities and policy decisions, ensuring they better reflect the needs of rural communities.
The survey is open to rural business owners and residents and will explore a range of issues including access to services, workforce challenges, connectivity, infrastructure and the financial pressures unique to rural settings. The findings will help build a clearer picture of the rural economy and ensure that businesses in rural areas have a stronger voice in local decision-making.
The launch follows the successful ‘Sowing the Seeds’ event held last year, where farmers, rural businesses, community groups and local leaders from across Wyre and Lancaster came together to discuss priorities for the future of rural communities. The insights gathered during the event highlighted the importance of ongoing engagement and helped inform the development of this wider consultation.
Councillor Peter Le Marinel, Portfolio Holder for Planning Policy and Economic Development at Wyre Council, said:
"Rural businesses are a vital part of Wyre's economy, contributing to local jobs, services and the unique character of our communities. Through this consultation, we want to hear directly from business owners about the challenges they face and the support they need to thrive.
"Whether you're a farmer, retailer, hospitality provider, tradesperson or operate another type of rural enterprise, your feedback will help us develop more targeted and effective support in the future. I would encourage all rural businesses to take a few minutes to complete the survey and make their voice heard."
The consultation will remain open until Monday 2 October, giving everyone plenty of opportunity to contribute their views. Feedback received will be used to inform future strategies and investment, helping ensure rural communities remain vibrant, resilient and prosperous, and refresh the present rural section in Economic Development and Visitor Economy Strategy.
