Fleetwood Markets Aspiring entrepreneur Rebekah Morris has thrived in the Incubator Programme which provides opportunity to develop real-world business skills through a unique training programme at Fleetwood Market.

Rebekah was selected from multiple applicants to run the new pet-themed stall, New Leash of Life, located in the main hall at Fleetwood Market.

The initiative forms part of wider investment allocated to Wyre Council through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF), which, alongside other projects, has helped establish the scheme.

The programme has offered Rebekah hands-on experience in running, marketing and managing a market stall. Having been mentored by Fleetwood Market staff Rebekah, has now been able to take over full control of the business, whilst still retaining the guidance of her mentors.

Julian Brent, Market Manager comments,

“To see this idea that I’ve carried for many years, become a success for Rebekah is so rewarding, proving that Markets can be so much more than trading areas and can provide a future and opportunity. I’m so proud of the business Rebekah has built and can’t wait to see her go from strength to strength”

This development initiative helps unemployed individuals gain the practical experience, knowledge, and self‑belief needed to become self‑employed market traders.

“I’ve found this opportunity a fantastic experience given me the confidence to create a career for myself. I can’t wait to see how the future looks for me now.”

Councillor Peter Le Marinel, Portfolio Holder for Planning Policy and Economic Development, added:

“Fleetwood Market has always been a vital part of our community, and this programme is a fantastic way to help local people turn their ideas into real businesses. By giving aspiring entrepreneurs, the support, space and confidence to grow, we’re investing not only in their future but in the future of our town centres. I’m delighted to see Rebekah take this opportunity, and I look forward to watching her business flourish.”

The project reflects Wyre Council’s ongoing commitment to supporting local people, strengthening business skills, and revitalising town centre markets as thriving community spaces.
