A much-loved community venue in Wyre is set to reopen as new leaseholders prepare to bring Thornton Little Theatre back to life with an ambitious programme of entertainment, theatre, community events and creative opportunities.

Wyre Council has confirmed that Claire and Ged Mills will take on the lease of the theatre, with plans to relaunch the venue as a vibrant hub for live performance, community activity and local talent.

The reopening marks a significant step forward for the theatre, which has long been valued by residents across Thornton-Cleveleys, Wyre and the wider Fylde Coast. The new team is aiming to reconnect the venue with audiences, performers and community groups, helping to re-establish Thornton Little Theatre as a key destination for arts, culture and entertainment.

The theatre opens with an immediate, varied programme of shows and events in July, with Scream Theatre School set to hold a presentation evening, Starlight Theatre Company performing Dare to Dream Jr and Across the Boards bringing the much-loved family favourite Chitty Chitty Bang Bang to the stage. Alongside these productions, Liam Halewood will be in the theatre filming for his new chat show Liam’s Corner of the Couch with special guests including Crissy Rock, Hayley Tamaddon and Charlotte Dawson.

The new theatre will also incorporate Coastal Radio DAB, the local radio station serving Blackpool, Wyre and Fylde, creating further opportunities to promote local voices, events, performers and community stories.

Claire Mills said:

“This is a really exciting time for Thornton Little Theatre. It is such a special venue with a lot of history and affection behind it, and we are looking forward to bringing it back into regular use for the community.

“Our aim is to create a welcoming space for live entertainment, theatre, music, community groups, young performers and local organisations. There will be something for everyone, and we can’t wait to welcome people back through the doors.”

Councillor Lynne Bowen, Wyre Council’s Portfolio Holder for Leisure, Health and Community Engagement, added:

“We’re delighted to see new leaseholders in place and plans moving forward for Thornton Little Theatre. This is a positive step that will see a valued community venue brought back into use, creating opportunities for residents, performers and local groups.”

The theatre will provide a welcoming and accessible space for performers, community groups and audiences, supporting Wyre Council’s wider ambition to enhance local cultural and community facilities.

Further details on the reopening date and upcoming programme are expected to be announced soon.
