Wyre Council invites final public feedback on draft Heritage and Culture Strategy

Wyre Council is calling on residents, businesses and visitors to take their final opportunity to help shape the borough’s Heritage and Culture Strategy by providing feedback on the newly published draft.

Following initial consultation carried out in 2025, the draft strategy sets out a shared vision for celebrating, preserving and strengthening Wyre’s rich arts, culture and heritage offer. The council is now encouraging the community to review the document and share their views through a short public survey.

Wyre is home to a diverse range of natural, built and cultural heritage assets, and the new strategy brings together the sector’s collective ambitions to support collaboration, strengthen fundraising and promote knowledge sharing. Once finalised, it will set a clear direction for protecting, enhancing and celebrating Wyre’s unique heritage, from its landscapes and historic buildings to its traditions, customs and creative expressions, which shape our identity, connect us to our past and inspire future creativity and innovation.

Residents, local organisations and visitors are all invited to take part in the survey. Whether you live in Wyre, work in the borough or simply enjoy spending time here, your insight will help shape a strategy that reflects the creativity, diversity and vitality of our communities.

As part of the early engagement phase, more than 200 survey responses were received, and 30 in‑depth interviews were conducted with key representatives from local and regional heritage, arts and cultural organisations. These conversations explored what makes Wyre distinctive, identified challenges and opportunities and ensured that the voices of those working in the sector are embedded in the final strategy.

The Heritage and Culture Strategy outlines clear objectives and priority initiatives designed to support sustainable growth, enhance community wellbeing and contribute positively to Wyre’s economic resilience.

Cllr Lynne Bowen, Leisure, Health and Community Engagement Portfolio Holder, commented:

“Our heritage and culture are central to what makes Wyre such a distinctive and inspiring place. This strategy is an important step in bringing our communities, partners and organisations together to celebrate what we value most and to plan for the future. We are grateful to everyone who has shared their views so far, and we encourage residents, businesses and visitors to take this final opportunity to help shape a shared vision for Wyre’s cultural landscape”.
