Wyre Council is proud to announce the installation of its first water bottle refill station, now in place outside the DANFO toilets near Marine Hall on Fleetwood’s popular promenade and beachfront.
This new facility represents an important step forward in our commitment to tackling climate change and reducing single-use plastics. By providing free access to fresh drinking water, the refill station encourages residents and visitors to reuse bottles and reduce waste, helping to protect our coastal environment for future generations.
The location was carefully chosen for its proximity to Fleetwood Leisure Centre and the bustling seafront, which hosts a regular 5k run and a wide range of sporting and charity events throughout the year. It’s a high-footfall area where the impact of a refill station will be felt immediately.
This project has been made possible thanks to a successful bid for a grant from the Sea-Changers Coastal Fountain Fund, which supports the installation of water fountains in busy or environmentally important coastal areas. The fund aims to reduce the impact of single-use plastic water bottles on coastal habitats by enabling communities to provide sustainable alternatives.
Councillor Simon Bridge, Portfolio Holder for Street Scene, Parks and Open Spaces, said:
“We’re delighted to bring Wyre Council’s first refill station to Fleetwood. It’s a simple but powerful way to support our climate goals, reduce plastic waste, and promote healthy, active lifestyles. We’re incredibly grateful to Sea-Changers for their support and look forward to seeing residents and visitors making good use of this new facility.”
Wyre Council continues to explore opportunities to expand refill stations across the borough as part of its wider sustainability and climate action plans.
