Wyre Council has officially launched its Annual Electoral Canvass, a legal requirement to ensure the Electoral Register is accurate and up to date.
The canvass runs from July to November and involves contacting every household in the borough.
The purpose of the canvass is to confirm who lives at each address and who is eligible to register to vote, including residents aged 16 and over. All households will be sent a letter by post, and we may also follow up by email, post, telephone or in person.
Do I need to respond?
Whether you need to respond depends on the type of communication you receive. Check the code printed under the contact details on your form:
- CCA – Respond only if there are changes (you are legally required to respond if changes are needed).
- CCB and CF – You must respond by law, even if there are no changes.
How to respond
You can respond in one of the following ways:
- Online: Visit www.householdresponse.com/wyre – the quickest and easiest method
- SMS: Text NO CHANGE followed by part 1 and part of your security codes to 80212 (include a reason if no one is eligible to vote, e.g., “empty”, “business”, “second home”)
- Automated Phone: Call 0800 884 0701 and enter your security codes when prompted
- By post: Complete and return the form to: Electoral Services, Civic Centre, Breck Road, Poulton-le-Fylde, FY6 7PU
Please ensure you include the name and nationality of everyone aged 16 or over who lives at the property. If no one is eligible to vote, please state the reason. If someone listed no longer lives at the address, cross through their name.
Telephone canvassing
If you receive a call about the canvass, it may be from Wyre Council. We are contacting households by phone where we have contact details and have not yet received a response. You can opt out of future telephone canvassing by emailing electoral.services@wyre.gov.uk with your full name and address.
Why is this important?
The canvass helps us identify who is eligible to register to vote. This includes young people aged 16 and 17 who will soon be eligible. The information collected allows us to send individual registration forms to those who need to register.
Already responded?
If you’ve returned your canvass form and added people they will receive an individual registration form to complete. The canvass confirms who lives at the property, but registration is the second step of the process to ensure you or your family members are able to vote. You can register online at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote – it only takes five minutes, you’ll just need to have your National Insurance number.
