Look out for the signs of domestic abuse

No excuse for abuse campaign image

We’re asking everyone in our county to know the signs of domestic abuse.

The ask is as part of the county’s #noexcuseforabuse campaign, that brings together partner agencies across the county including local councils, the NHS, support services, Lancashire Constabulary and the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner to raise awareness and understanding of domestic abuse.

As we can see more of our family and friends as COVID restrictions continue to lift, you may have noticed some changes in their appearance and/or behaviour. These changes could be a sign that your loved is experiencing or at risk of domestic abuse.

Some of the signs of domestic abuse, such as physical marks, may be easy to identify. Others may be things you can easily explain away or overlook. By knowing the signs of domestic abuse, you could help a friend, colleague or family member.

You can find detailed examples of the signs of the many forms of domestic abuse at: Know the signs | No excuse for abuse

Domestic abuse isn’t just physical – it can be emotional, physical, sexual, financial or controlling behaviour. Trust your instincts - if something you’ve seen or heard doesn’t feel right, it probably isn’t.
