If you're struggling with debt
If financial problems mean you are struggling to pay your mortgage/rent, council tax and other household bills, you can get free debt advice and support from the organisations listed below:
- Citizens Advice www.citizensadvice.org.uk
- Money Advice Service www.moneyadviceservice.org.uk
- National Debtline www.nationaldebtline.org
- Stepchange www.stepchange.org
- Christians Against Poverty www.capuk.org
There are many other debt advice providers you can use, but you should always check to see if they will charge fees for helping you. Any additional fees you have to pay mean that it will cost more to clear your debts and may take much longer.
If you decide to seek help from one of the organisations listed above, and your debts include unpaid council tax, we can suspend action to collect this debt for a period of two months to allow time for your advisors to work out how much you can afford to pay each month to clear your arrears.
The two month period will start from the date your advisors tell us that they are helping you. They can do this at email@example.com.
Any attachment of earnings or benefits we already have in place to collect council tax arrears from you will continue during the two month period, though we will not make any new attachments during that time.
