Recycling

Battery collection scheme

Up to 60% of a battery can be recycled. You can also buy rechargable batteries which use less energy and are more cost effective.

Batteries contain hazardous materials which are best kept out of landfill sites as there is a risk of polluting surrounding areas and watercourses.

You can place batteries in a clear bag on top of, or next to, your recycling bins (but not in them).  To help make the scheme more efficient, it would help if you could save batteries until you have at least 10.

The batteries we can recycle are:

  • D
  • C
  • AA
  • AAA
  • 9V
  • button
  • rechargeable
  • mobile
  • iPod
  • hearing aid batteries
  • laptop
  • power tool batteries.

Keep your batteries somewhere cool, dry and out of direct sunlight. Never store damaged or leaking batteries. We cannot accept car or other industrial batteries. If you leave these, we will class it as fly tipping.

Household Waste Recycling Centres will also accept batteries.
