Wyre Council is proud to announce the development of a new Heritage and Culture Strategy aimed at celebrating and strengthening the borough’s rich tapestry of arts, culture and heritage.
The council is inviting residents, local organisations and visitors to help shape the future of Wyre’s cultural landscape by sharing their views through a short public survey.
Wyre is home to a diverse range of natural, built and cultural heritage assets and this new strategy aims to bring together the sector’s shared goals, encourage collaboration, support fundraising and promote knowledge sharing. The new strategy will provide a clear vision and direction for how Wyre’s heritage and culture can be preserved, enhanced and celebrated for generations to come.
The council is calling on the community to contribute their thoughts on:
- What aspects of heritage and culture matter most to you?
- What makes Wyre unique?
- What should our priorities be?
- Are there gaps or opportunities for new cultural or heritage projects?
The survey is open to everyone – whether you live in Wyre, work here, or simply enjoy visiting. Your input will help shape a strategy that reflects the creativity, diversity and success of our communities.

As part of the consultation, around 30 face-to-face interviews will be conducted with key figures from the local and regional heritage, arts and culture sectors. These conversations will explore what makes Wyre special, identify challenges and opportunities and ensure that the voices of those working in the sector are heard and reflected in the final strategy.
Councillor Lynne Bowen, Portfolio Holder for Leisure, Health and Community Engagement at Wyre Council, said:
“Wyre’s heritage and culture are at the heart of what makes our borough such a special place to live, work and visit. This strategy is an exciting opportunity to bring our communities together, celebrate our unique identity and ensure that our cultural legacy continues to thrive. We want to hear from everyone. Your voice will help shape a vibrant and inclusive future for Wyre.”
Heritage and culture in Wyre encompass everything from our natural landscapes and historic buildings to the customs, traditions and creative expressions of our communities. These elements shape our identity, connect us to our past and inspire our future.
The Heritage and Culture Strategy will set out strategic objectives and key initiatives to support sustainable growth, enhance community wellbeing and contribute to the borough’s economic vitality.
