The Soldiers start their summer tour at Marine Hall, Fleetwood
Published on Tuesday 7th August 2012
Britain’s first group of serving soldiers to enter the pop charts are once again hitting the road for a summer UK tour.
Join Sergeant Major Gary Chilton, Staff Sergeant Richie Maddocks and Lance Corporal Ryan Idzi for an evening of uplifting music from this talented trio. Beginning in Fleetwood's Marine Hall on 16 August The Soldiers' summer tour will visit Fareham, Eastbourne, Bournemouth, Plymouth, Worthing and St Albans before concluding in Southend on August 28th.
Through the release of The Soldiers' three albums and their subsequent tours The Soldiers have raised over £500,000 for armed forces charities including Help For Heroes, The Royal British Legion and the ABF The Soldiers' Charity.
The Soldiers' story began when Ryan Idzi made it through to the bootcamp stages of 2007's X Factor. Following his appearance on the show music entrepreneur Jeff Chegwin and partner Nick Patrick, a Grammy-nominated producer, contacted Ryan with an opportunity that would change his life. Chegwin and Patrick already had their eye on two serving sergeants from the Corps of Army Music, who they planned to approach with the idea of recording an album. When they spotted Ryan on The X Factor, they knew they had a band.
With Gary Chilton and Richie Maddocks on board alongside Ryan, The Soldiers were formed. Their debut album 'Coming Home' was released in 2009 going Top 5 and has since been certified double platinum. 2010's follow up album 'Letters Home', and The Soldiers latest album 'Message To You' have both been released to similar success. 'Message To You' included the official 2011 Poppy Appeal single 'I've Gotta Get A Message To You' recorded with Robin Gibb who joined The Soldiers on stage for the final night of their winter tour at the London Palladium for a special performance of the song.
Speaking ahead of the tour Staff Sergeant Richie Maddocks said "We are very excited about our summer tour, and as always it is so nice to meet our fans, whose support is so important. We're really looking forward to seeing you all."
Sergeant Major Gary Chilton added "This year we celebrate the Diamond Jubilee of Her Majesty The Queen and as always our armed forces continue to represent us overseas in Afghanistan and other regions. It goes without saying that it remains a huge privilege for us to raise awareness of what a fantastic job they do on our behalf. We hope that you can join us on what I'm sure will be a memorable and fun series of lives shows that only "The Soldiers" can deliver."
The Soldiers have performed for Her Majesty The Queen at the Royal Variety, also headlining earlier this year at The London Palladium. They've appeared at The Festival of Remembrance two years in a row and their TV appearances include, The Paul O'Grady Show, Lorraine, Daybreak, Strictly Come Dancing, all the major News channels and caused a TV first when all TV channels broadcast them at the same time on Remembrance Day.
