Using nature to boost wellbeing

Myplace, an innovative and award-winning ecotherapy project has recently launched two brand new sessions for over 18's in Wyre.

Working in partnership with Wyre Council and funded by The National Lottery Community Fund, the free weekly sessions take place at Towers Wood in Cleveleys and Cottam Hall in Poulton.

The sessions have been developed by the Lancashire Wildlife Trust and Lancashire and South Cumbria NHS Foundation Trust to help local residents to combat loneliness, reconnect with nature and learn new skills in a relaxed and mindful setting.

Councillor Lynne Bowen, Portfolio Holder for Leisure, Health and Community Engagement at Wyre Council comments, “The sessions are small friendly groups of seven or eight people, using nature to help improve their sense of wellbeing. They are completely free. If you are over 18 and are feeling a bit isolated or in need of a boost these sessions could be just what you need. They are perfect for those wanting to get out in the fresh air, learn something new and meet other people. All you need to do to join the sessions is get in touch with the Project Officer to register.”

Mike McDonnell Myplace Project Officer said, “Nature is so powerful and we are only now really starting to understand and appreciate the profound impact it has on all our lives. Working at Myplace I can see the huge difference spending even a bit of time outside can have on people. Myplace is changing people’s lives and I would urge you to give us a try.”

The Myplace programme combines ecotherapy with nature volunteering and is the perfect way to give back to nature, take time for yourself, meet new people and give your wellbeing a boost.
