Wyre Community Alcohol Partnership is raising awareness of the true cost of alcohol to us all this Alcohol Awareness Week

Wyre Community Alcohol Partnership (CAP) will be joining over 5,000 community groups across the UK to raise awareness of the true cost of alcohol.

In support of this year’s campaign, Wyre CAP are working with youth services, local organisations and Lancashire Police with a week of diversional activity aimed at awareness, engagement and support for our residents in the borough.

Throughout the week, there will be plenty of awareness raising activity and community engagement through informative, interactive alcohol education sessions taking place at a youth club, local secondary school and out across the borough. There’ll be plenty of engaging activities for people to take part in, all designed to help raise awareness and educate people on the harmful effects of alcohol.

This multiagency approach will work to showcase the true cost of alcohol not only to individuals but to society as a whole, showing how alcohol has both individual and wider societal impacts, placing significant pressure on the NHS, the police, and workplaces.

Councillor Berry, Deputy Leader and Portfolio Holder for Neighbourhood Services and Community Safety at Wyre Council said,

“Alcohol Awareness Week provides us and other partner organisations with an opportunity to raise awareness and educate people about the dangers of underage drinking and to promote the valuable resources available for people.”

Wyre CAP, is a partnership led by Wyre Council and works with partners including Lancashire County Council Trading Standards and Children & Family Wellbeing Services, Lancashire Police, Lancashire Fire and Rescue to name a few, in addition to local social housing providers, schools and retailers.

Alcohol Awareness Week is managed and hosted by UK charity Alcohol Change UK and runs from 3 to 9 July 2023.
