Work under way on the beach

A round up of news from Wyre

Works starts to clear Fleetwood beach

Work has started on Fleetwood beach to remove trees and weeds adjacent to the promenade along with the enriched sand dune in which they are growing. This involves cutting back vegetation and dropping the beach level by approx 1m next to the sea wall, from the RNLI Lifeboat Station to Fleetwood Pier, in order to prevent any further build up of invasive plants.

The work is being carried out by Wyre Council's Engineering Team in conjunction with the Ranger Service and Natural England to ensure that protected species are not damaged.

Wyreside win

Councillor Vivien Taylor has been elected Lancashire County Councillor for Wyreside.

Councillor Taylor, who is currently a district councillor for Preesall, received a large majority of the votes at a poll held on 27 October.

Wyreside covers the rural wards of Preesall, Pilling, Great Eccleston and Hambleton and Stalmine with Staynall.
