Who will win Wyre's coveted sports award?

Published on Monday 22nd February 2010

Wyre Borough Council is looking for this year's winner of a coveted sports trophy.

The Sheraton Trophy is a handsome cup awarded annually for sporting excellence.

It may be won by an individual, group or team within the Wyre area and recognises the contribution they have made to the prestige of the borough through their sporting achievements.

Last year the trophy was awarded to Yasemin Sunbul who had excelled in her chosen sport of ice skating.

The Sheraton Trophy takes its name from HMS Sheraton which was awarded the freedom of the borough in recognition of work done in Fleetwood by the crew during the 1977 flood emergency when the ship was visiting the port.

The trophy is presented by the Mayor of Wyre at the annual meeting of the council, which this year takes place at Marine Hall, Fleetwood, on 14 May.

Candidates can nominate themselves or be put forward by others.

Please send your nominations to Andrea Mullin, Policy and Performance Directorate, Civic Centre, Breck Road, Poulton-le-Fylde, Lancashire, FY6 7PU, or email amullin@wyrebc.gov.uk .

Closing date is 23 April.
