Have your say on Wyre's local plan

planning, housing, home, house

Wyre Council is inviting residents to have their say on the full review of the borough’s Local Plan. The consultation opens on Thursday 27 January until Thursday 10 March 2022.

A Local Plan outlines the vision for development in the borough and is reviewed at least every 5 years. The plan is used to help decide on planning applications and other planning decisions. It acts as a guide to what can be built in the borough and outlines the future patterns of development and designated sites.

The council adopted their local plan in 2019 and are now looking to undertake a full review of the local plan over the next two years.

Wyre Council declared a climate emergency in July of 2019 which was after the original plan was adopted. They are now looking at how mitigating the impact of climate change can be better considered in the local plan.

This review could include the consideration of building designs, biodiversity and flood risk management.

Initially, the council is inviting residents and other stakeholders to identify issues that the full review local plan should address and to identify the evidence required to support the plan’s preparation.

Councillor Alice Collinson, Portfolio Holder for Planning Policy and Economic Development, commented, “It’s crucial for us to consider how developments of the borough can affect climate change and we’re determined to put standards in place that will help mitigate the damage on our climate.

“This new plan will allow us to consider new options for how developments can help counteract climate change and build a biodiverse borough.”

The council is also seeking to know of any sites, land or buildings in Wyre that could have potential for future development, redevelopment or designation for:

  • Renewable, community and low carbon energy;
  • Nature recovery/ biodiversity net gain;
  • Natural flood management;
  • Housing;
  • Employment;
  • Retail, leisure and commercial uses and
  • Gypsies and Travellers & Travelling Show people.

The council will assess all submissions and consider what sites could be suitable for development or designation, if required.

If you wish to submit any sites for consideration, visit www.wyre.gov.uk/localplanreview.

Comments for the consultation and the submission of ‘Call for Sites Response Forms’ should be made by email or post to:

The consultation will close at 5.00pm on 10 March 2022.
