G5.5 Sykes Geology Walk

Dry stone walling at beacon fell

Short walk to look at the rocks, minerals, and fossils in the area around Sykes.

There will be opportunity to look amongst the old mine waste for samples of the minerals worked. This is followed by looking at the limestone rocks and fossils in the disused quarries.

This one mile walk is graded moderate.

  • Stout Footwear – Flip Flop style footwear not allowed.
  • A Drink
  • Sunscreen & Insect Repellent, if required.

A ranger /walk leader will be at the start of an activity whatever the weather. In extreme conditions, the leader of the group will take a decision on the day whether or not cancel.

Planned Road Closure

We have been made aware that Lancashire Highways have a planned road closure, which will affect anybody planning to travel from the direction of Dunsop Bridge along the Trough Road to the meeting point at Langden Intake. Anyone intending to approach Landen Intake from the direction of Dunsop Bridge will need to find an alternative route and allow extra time for your journey.  If you have booked tickets for anyone else who may be travelling on the day please also make them aware of this closure.

Anyone travelling from the Scorton or Abbeystead direction will not be affected.

Whilst this planned closure is outside our control, we wish to apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.
