Wyre Council supports scheme to provide laptops for local school children

Child using laptop Published Thursday, 11 February 2021

Wyre Council is proud to be working in partnership with local organisations and with Laptops for Kids to help provide devices for local school children.

Laptops for Kids is a charity which facilitates the donation, secure erasure and distribution of used devices to help give children access to the technology they need for remote learning.

The council is now encouraging local businesses and individuals to donate unwanted devices to help children who need them the most.

Anyone wishing to donate a device needs to complete an agreement form at www.wyre.gov.uk/laptopsforkids before dropping off the device.

Once the agreement form has been sent, devices can be dropped off at:

  • Marine Hall, Fleetwood - Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday 11am to 2pm in the container which is at the front entrance.
  • Civic Centre, Poulton – Monday to Friday, 11am to 2pm in the container at the front entrance off Breck Road.
  • The Bellflower pub, Garstang – please call 01995 238207 to make arrangements prior to drop off at this location.

This scheme does not replace or duplicate any schemes run by schools and this service is in addition to the government scheme which is already proving beneficial for many students and educational institutions.

Councillor Lynne Bowen, Portfolio Holder for Leisure, Health and Community at Wyre Council comments “We are very pleased to be supporting this additional scheme in Wyre to help support local children in providing them with a digital device which they can use for online learning. We would encourage anyone who has a spare, in good working order device to donate to this good cause so we can help as many local children as possible to access digital learning. The process is very simple and we have provided a number of drop off points around the borough so that they are easily accessible. ”

Donated equipment must be less than five years old and in full working order. The device should be running, or capable of running, the Windows 10 operating system.
