A statement from the Leader of Wyre Council, Councillor David Henderson, following last night's Overview and Scrutiny Committee meetingPublished Wednesday, 16 December 2020
"Last night Wyre Council's Overview and Scrutiny Committee considered Cabinet's recommendation to provide additional funding of £340,165 in 2020/21.
This is to enable Fylde Coast YMCA to continue to provide a leisure service in Wyre. The Committee voted in favour of the recommendation.
"This funding is in addition to the £636,345 of funding already agreed, bringing the total support package to just under £1million since June 2020. Without this, none of the YMCA centres in Wyre would be in a position to open.
"We are also in the process of submitting an application for the previously announced £100million of government funding allocated for leisure facilities.
"At the moment Fylde Coast YMCA has reopened centres in Thornton and Garstang, and Garstang pool will reopen in January 2021. It is our intention to work with the YMCA to open all the centres once it is financially viable to do so and this situation is being reviewed monthly."
