Wyre’s green waste collections back up and runningPublished Thursday, 30 April 2020
We are pleased to confirm that our green waste collections will be phased back in from Monday 4 May.
Residents are being asked to refer to their collection calendar to see what their next collection date is or visit www.wyre.gov.uk/bins
If you are a new subscriber and have not yet received your sticker you will need to wait until the new subscription year begins. We will be able to confirm this date once we have completed all the catch up collections and hope that this will be as soon as possible. You do not need a new sticker for your bin to be emptied if you have subscribed to the 2019/20 collection.
Councillor Simon Bridge, Portfolio Holder for Street Scene, Parks and Open Spaces at Wyre Council comments, “We are delighted to get this service back up and running. Our staffing levels have been affected which is why we had to suspend the service, however we are now doing everything we can to get the service up and running as normal as soon as possible.
“Whilst we hope that green bins will be collected on the normal scheduled days, it is anticipated that the service will be disrupted and on some days we will experience difficulties completing collections of all green bins. If we haven’t been able to get to you please leave your bin out and we will return on another operational day to collect – usually within 2 working days.
“We would ask for your continued understanding during these challenging times. The crews have been extremely grateful for the positive messages of support they have been getting whilst making collections.”
Customers on an assisted collection are asked to ensure access to the bin. Only green waste within bins from properties subscribed to the service will be collected and no additional green waste will be taken in order to avoid creating further service disruption.
The service was suspended with three collections of the 2019/20 subscription year still to be made. These collections will be credited taking place over the next few collection cycles. The council will then look to start the new subscription year and the date for this will be confirmed soon.
When the new subscription year is confirmed, those that have already re-subscribed to the 20/21 year do not need to do anything. Those who have signed up to the direct debit service will receive an email from the council’s direct debit provider, Go Cardless advising them of payment mandate instructions.
Moving forward there will become a new anniversary date for the green waste collection service. The subscription sticker template for 2020-21 had already been printed ahead of the decision to suspend, so when customers receive a new sticker it will have an expiry date of the 30 April 2021 – however this will automatically be extended to the new re-subscription date.
If you haven’t yet subscribed to the green waste service, there is still time to sign up go to www.wyre.gov.uk/greenwaste
