Honorary Alderman on former councillors of Wyre
At a special meeting of the council on Thursday 12 March, the Mayor of Wyre conferred the title of Honorary Alderman on four former councillors.
At the meeting, Mrs Marge Anderton, Mrs Ruth Duffy, Mr John Hodgkinson and Mr Terry Lees were given the title of Honorary Alderman.
The title of Honorary Alderman is pursuant to Section 249 of the Local Government Act 1972 and is bestowed as a distinction on former councillors for their services, doing so at a special meeting to pass the title approved by two-thirds of those attending.
Marge Anderton served 16 years as councillor as well as one term as Mayor of Wyre.
Ruth Duffy also served 16 years as a councillor.
John Hodgkinson served 20 years as a councillor and one term as Mayor of Wyre.
Terry Lees also served 20 years as a councillor and one term as Mayor of Wyre.
