EU Settlement SchemePublished Sunday, 18 August 2019
The Government has just announced that one million EU citizens and their families from across the UK have now been granted settled or pre-settled status under the EU Settlement Scheme.
Lancashire County Council has been helping EU citizens to get granted status since May from their Preston Record Office and at libraries in St. Annes, Ormskirk, Rawtenstall, Colne, Morecambe, Preston and Burnley.
If you're a European Union, European Economic Area, or Swiss citizen living in the UK, you can apply for settled or pre-settled status using the Government's EU Settlement Scheme.
The EU Settlement Scheme is designed to make it straightforward for EU citizens and their family members to stay after the UK leaves the EU. To apply you only need to complete 3 key steps – prove your identity, show that you live in the UK, and declare any criminal convictions.
You will need to apply to this scheme if you want to continue to live in the UK after 31 June 2021.
If the UK leaves the EU with a deal, you will have until 30 June 2021 to apply for either settled or pre-settled status.
If the UK leaves the EU with no deal, the deadline for applying will be 31 December 2020.
You can find out more on Lancashire County Council’s website where you will find details of who should apply, as well as how to download the EU Settlement Scheme's app.
If you cannot use the EU Settlement Scheme's app, you can use Lancashire County Council’s ID scanning service at Preston Record Office on Mondays to Thursdays from 9am to noon.
