A Feast of Family Fun at Marine Fest!Published Friday, 02 August 2019
Wyre Council and its community group partners will be hosting Marine Fest on Sunday 11th August. The event will run between 11am and 4pm.
It is about encouraging local families to be creative and active together. There is a real emphasis on celebrating family participation.
Amongst the many activities are craft sessions, big art making, tug of war, circus skills, caricature drawing, and storytelling. It’s all free and children will be able to take home art materials to continue the fun at home.
Set in the expanse of the Marine Gardens, there will be designated areas for these activities, along with community and information stalls.
The live music promotes local talent, both traditional and contemporary, with showcases from the legendary Fleetwood Old Boys Band, and young musicians, the 11th Hour who will animate the stage with pop and rock classics. Other acts include duo Flower Prescription, Finlay Byrne and trio Elements.
It’s a day for all ages and abilities, a coming together to have fun, embracing a sharing and supporting environment. This part of Wyre Council’s drive to encourage active, happy and healthy lives for local residents.
Tony O’Neil from Men’s Shed said “Fleetwood has a community that beats all others so let's all come together on Sunday 11th and have fun, there’s something for everyone from young children to the older generation.”
Karen Boylan of Healthier Fleetwood said, "This is sure to become another popular event in the local calendar alongside Celebrate Fleetwood Day, the Carnival, Festive Lantern Parade and many others. It's great to see residents getting involved and just shows what a strong community we have in the Town."
Councillor Lynne Bowen portfolio holder for Leisure, Health and Community engagement said, ‘Using great outdoor spaces, like the Marine Hall Gardens, to bring people together and get involved in the arts and physical activity, is vital to support family participation, wellbeing and self-care. The Council’s ongoing partnership with local groups is essential to re-iterate the need for this ongoing support.’
