Wyre continues to invest in town centre Christmas sparkle

Wyre continues to invest in town centre Christmas sparkle Published Thursday, 04 October 2018

To start the festive season with a bang, Wyre council has dedicated over £18,000 to help Wyre’s towns and villages sparkle this Christmas.

Fleetwood, Cleveleys, Thornton, Poulton, Hambleton, Knott End/Preesall and Garstang all are all set to receive a grant and the coordinating organisations for each town are now working hard to raise additional funds and provide volunteer time to make the displays better than ever.

It is hoped that as well as making the borough look beautiful at Christmas, this money will encourage economic vitality as people come to visit Wyre's towns and villages over the festive period.

Damian Carr is part of the Garstang Christmas lights group and explains, “The money we receive from Wyre Council is invaluable in putting our lighting scheme together and is very much appreciated.

“We are really lucky here in Garstang to have such a great team who are busy fundraising the extra money needed to put on our display. They have organised all sorts of events from quiz nights to family fun events and also work with local businesses to raise additional funds. The festive lighting gives a really great atmosphere to the town and this year we are really excited as we will have a brand new scheme for Garstang which we are all very much looking forward to.”

Councillor Alan Vincent, Resources Portfolio Holder at Wyre Council comments, “We are delighted to be able to support our local communities once again to put on such wonderful festive displays. The community groups in each area do a great job in raising extra funds and giving up their time to make their towns look so nice for Christmas.”
