Wyre is celebrating after receiving four Green Flags for its parks across the borough.

Poulton's Vicarage Park, Hawthorne Park in Thornton, Wyre Estuary Country Park in Stanah and Fleetwood’s Memorial Park have all received the award for another year.

The parks are among a record-breaking 1,883 UK parks and green spaces that have received a prestigious Green Flag Award – the mark of a quality park or green space.

The Green Flag Awards scheme is run by leading environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy who also run the Blue Flag/Seaside Awards for beaches.

This international award is a sign to the public that Wyre’s parks boasts the highest possible environmental standards, are beautifully maintained and have excellent visitor facilities.

Councillor Simon Bridge, Street Scene, Parks and Open Spaces Portfolio Holder at Wyre Council, said: “We are very proud to win Green Flags Awards for our parks. What a great way to mark Love Parks Week.

“I would like to thank all the volunteers, Wyre Council officers and Friends groups for all their hard work and dedication. They ensure the parks are kept tidy and clean, and facilities and events are available for everyone around the borough to enjoy.”

Wyre Council is currently celebrating Love Parks Week, with events held at some of its award winning parks.

Les Fletcher, Chair of Friends of Memorial park group said: “This is the fourth consecutive year Memorial Park has won this award and I’m very glad we’ve done it again.

“The group works tirelessly, alongside Wyre Council’s officers to maintain and enhance the park’s natural beauty, and this award is a great achievement for the ongoing effort we all put in.”
