Wyre waste facts

Wyre residents still send to landfill nearly half of the waste produced, this is the equivalent of 1,693 double decker buses.

Each household produces just under 1 tonne of waste a year, that's the equivalent of two Asian elephants.

Last year we collected over 10,000 tonnes of green waste, that's the equivalent of 388 refuse collection vehicles.

In Wyre we collected just over 2,500 tonnes of glass. If this was all wine bottles and they were stacked on top of each other it would be the equivalent of 9500 Blackpool Towers or cover the length of the country three times over.

Last year by using your blue bins and recycling your paper and cardboard you saved 124,403 trees from being felled to make virgin paper - well done.

Did you know...

  • It takes 25 plastic bottles to make a fleece jacket
  • The energy saved by recycling one glass bottle will power a computer for 25 minutes
