7 ways to support Local - in lockdown and beyond

Local businesses are at the heart of our communities. With non-essential businesses and shops still closed until further notice, there’s lots of easy ways we can still support local businesses during lockdown.

We have listed 7 easy ways for you to support the local businesses you love during lockdown.

Where you can – shop local

Your small choice to shop local means everything local business owners and Wyre’s markets, butchers and more are open for you to purchase everyday essentials help to make a difference to the communities we love during lockdown and support local and shop local where you can.

Leave a review

We all like to check out reviews before we commit to a purchase, but how often do you remember to leave a review online for businesses once you’ve enjoyed a successful shopping experience? Try to support local businesses you have had a good product, service or experience with and remember to leave positive reviews on google, sites like trip advisor, trust pilot and of course their social media.

It’s such an easy way to support local businesses, why not try to make it a part of your online shopping habits to leave reviews on your experience with local businesses.

Treat someone special to a gift card

Purchasing a gift card is a great way to show your support for local businesses as well as giving your partner something to look forward to when we come out of lockdown. Plus there is no chance of getting the wrong gift!

Bonus points for the true romantics who are planning a perfect night out in dreamy anticipation of finally being able to again! Book your partner a wellbeing or beauty treatment to be used in future, get them a gift card for a new outfit or jewellery, contact your favourite local restaurant and ask to be put on the first contacted list for when we come out of lockdown… how thoughtful is that!

Share the love online

An easy and familiar way to support local businesses during lockdown is to engage with them online.  By visiting their website and signing up for newsletters you can help to improve their communications with customers. If you can follow their social media and like, share and comment on their social posts, these interactions are great for helping businesses reach potential new customers and you get to keep updated too! Everyone wins!

Get that takeaway!

Restrictions have made it harder for everyone to enjoy many of the simplest comforts we once took for granted. But one indulgence we can STILL enjoy in lockdown is delicious takeaway food… and when you order from the great range of local cuisine available for delivery you are supporting local businesses too!

With socially-distanced collection and delivery options available across many restaurants the only question left is what are you going to choose to order?

Join in online

Lockdown has created many challenges for everyone, particularly business owners. One way you can show your support is to join in with any of your local clubs or activities that have moved online. It will have taken a lot of time and effort for local business owners to transition to new and different way of working and you can show your appreciation by continuing to engage with them through their online sessions.

Spread the word

One of the easiest and very best ways you can support local businesses is through good old word of mouth and personal recommendations! If you have received incredible customer service from a local business, tell everyone about it! If a product you bought recently was amazing tell your friends to consider purchasing too! Recommend local products and services to your circle of influence and feel good about it knowing you are supporting someone’s passion, dream and livelihood.
