Frequently asked questions

What is the council's role in a major emergency?

In the immediate aftermath of a major emergency, the principal concerns will be to provide support for the emergency services, continue normal services to the local and wider community and to use resources to mitigate the effects of the emergency.

As time goes on, the emphasis will switch from response to recovery and the council will take a leading role to facilitate the rehabilitation of the community and restoration of the environment in the return to normality.
