Empty Homes
A home that stands empty can cause problems.
If it is not secure it can:
- attract vandals and burglars
- become overgrown
- be a target for fly-tipping
- fall into disrepair and become a safety risk.
Around 310,000 homes in England have been empty for more than six months - that's equivalent to a city the size of Leeds.
Should you wish to report an empty property in your neighbourhood please complete the online form and we will investigate the matter. Please note we are unable to investigate anonymous reports. This could help us to bring empty homes back into use.
The Empty Homes Strategy ~ 2012 - 2015 outline our approach to empty, private housing within the borough. This is an important issue for us as an empty property is a wasted resource which, in an area of high housing demand could be better utilised by providing someone with a place to live.
