1. Battle of the Bands

Applications are invited from young music makers wanting to compete in an exciting new competition.

Battle of the Bands will be held at Marine Hall in Fleetwood on 23 July, with a top prize of £500. Judges include John Walker, organiser of Tommyfest, and Dan Atkinson of Rock Hard Music Studios.

Solo performers must be under 19 and bands must include at least one member who is under 19.

To enter send a link to a Myspace, Youtube or Facebook page, or your own website, to brian.wood@lancashire.gov.uk. Alternatively, send a CD of your music to Jean Laurie, Arts Development Officer, Civic Centre Breck Rd, Poulton-le-Fylde, FY7 6PU.

2. Cheaper way to compost

Reduced price compost bins are available to all Wyre residents under a new scheme.

Lancashire County Council, Wyre Council and Evergreener.com are teaming up to offer residents home composting units and water butts which are delivered with full instructions. Prices start at just £19.49 with buy one get one half price available with certain bins.

3. Fleetwood goes continental

A continental weekend is being held at Fleetwood Market to celebrate Tram Sunday.

Visitors can enjoy food and wares from across Europe at an outdoor market on Adelaide Street from 15 to 17 July.
