Introducing the new Mayor of Wyre

Councillor Don Lawrenson has been appointed the Mayor of Wyre for 2012/13.
Councillor Lawrenson received his chains of office during Wyre Council's annual meeting held at the Civic Centre in Poulton. Mrs Vera Lawrenson joins him as Mayoress.
Elected member for Pilling ward, Councillor Lawrenson has represented the people of Pilling for 33 years at parish and borough levels. He said: "I'm honoured to take on this role particularly in such a special year, with both the Queen's Diamond Jubilee and the Olympics taking place.
"My chosen charities are Brian House Children's Hospice and Help for Heroes, and I hope to raise as much money as possible during my mayoralty.
"Vera and I are very much looking forward to the coming year".
The Deputy Mayor and Mayoress of Wyre for this year are Councillor Ian Perkin, elected member for Staina ward in Thornton, and Mrs Eva Perkin.
The Mayor undertakes a number of duties throughout the year including hosting fundraising functions, attending community events and chairing full meetings of the council.
